Auto-Detection of Hidden Corrosion in an Aircraft Structure by Electromagnetic Testing: A Machine-Learning Approach

An aircraft is a multilayer structure that assembled by rivets. Under extreme working conditions, corrosion appears and quickly propagates at the rivet sites of layers; thus, it threads integrity safety aircraft. Corrosion usually occurs hidden layer around rivet, making difficult to detect. This paper proposes machine learning approach incorporating an electromagnetic testing system detect riveting site effectively. Several methods will be investigated for detection different sizes locations corrosion. The training strategy machine-learning models on small numbers data also investigated. result shows proposed could effectively 89.48% having from 2.8 195.4 mm3 with only 20% increased 99.0% 60–80% data.
